On Mother’s Day, we pause to celebrate and honor moms around the world. All moms are special and have a unique place in our hearts and society. Yet, perhaps the most special mothers are mompreneurs–the women who actively manage the role of mom and the role of entrepreneur. I say manage and not balance, because I believe that effective management is the key to success. We lean in, lean on and work it out. We’re mompreneurs.
To excel as a mom and entrepreneur requires the utmost love, commitment, patience, resilience, and strength. Even with all of these practices in place there is still no guarantee that your children will grow up to be healthy, well-adjusted, productive members of the world, or that your business will flourish.
Becoming a mom and an entrepreneur is a singular, spectacular achievement. Mompreneurs birth human beings or take on the responsibility of nurturing and raising another’s offspring, all while giving birth to a business. Mompreneurssustain both their children and their companies in the face of all obstacles. It is up to them to generate revenue, create jobs, and be leaders in their communities.
As the single mom of a 15-year-old daughter, and founder and CEO of Impact for the past 25+ years, I understand the demands of performing the two most important jobs I’ll ever have in my life. I am proud to be a mompreneur. I applaud my sister mompreneurs as they advance their businesses and enhance the lives of their children and communities.
